PERTH Demons head coach Andrew Jarman says the club is gearing up for success following the announcement of new recruits.
While former South Adelaide and current Fremantle Docker player Justin Bollenhagen will join the club in a senior role, new colt players have also joined the side.
In a recent announcement to members, Jarman said his focus would be on the 2009 colts who have come into the senior program for 2010.
“The key position players are Hayden Busher, Matthew Blackburn, Cameron Kickett, who will join a very powerful running side in Aaron Elari, Michael Florio, Brett Hodge, Joel Leeson, Kyle McLaughlin, Matt Rodgers and Liam Smith,” Jarman said.
“All these boys will develop in different roles throughout the year to give them some football experience and an understanding of their role in the side.
“Their training has been outstanding, with them training four to five days per week.”
Jarman said players were targeting body strength and running capacity.
He said colts players such as Michael Florio, Dominic Stearne and Aaron Elari were aiming to play senior football, with Scott Moore, James Crabtree, Aaron Turvey and Reid Turner being monitored.
“Since the boys returned from their Christmas break, the program has been very demanding and we are now in our game rehearsal program and the boys have been working extremely well,” Jarman said.
“There is a real excitement among the group because for the first time in a number of years these boys now get an opportunity to play some senior football, because in the past recruiting has been the main focus.
“I believe in recruiting quality and if you don’t get that quality, they don’t play in a Perth jumper.
“We now have a number of our junior players who have gone through the system who now have the confidence that they can play some senior football.”
