VICTORIA Park’s Eleni Zaknich could be on her way to a future career as a chef after competing in Wanneroo Central’s inaugural Junior Chef Challenge.
The 14-year-old was given a list of ingredients from which to construct a menu and from that was selected to compete alongside 20 other young people in a semi-final cook-off at the weekend.
Creativity and skill were key, as entrants were asked to submit their tastiest recipes.
On-site aids were there to help contestants during the competition with lots of handy tips for budding chefs and shoppers.
Eleni’s mum Angela Zaknich said the teenager cooked regularly at home, and had been convinced to enter the competition by a friend.
The top ten will go on to compete in the grand final on Saturday, April 9 with the winner handed a full scholarship for a three-year chef apprenticeship at the Australian School of Culinary Arts, plus $100 to spend at Wanneroo Central.
