WHEN the Fremantle theme song takes over the Melbourne Cricket Ground on Friday night and the Dockers run through the banner, three committed fans will be right there with them.
Part of the 30-member strong Fremantle Banner Team, Fremantle resident Maria Giglia said she was so excited to be at the semi-final game and would be proud of the team no matter what the result.
Sharing the experience with her will be fellow banner team members Nan Jackson, who was lucky to score a ticket when another member could not get the time off work, and Joy Rickerby.
Given the team beat Geelong in round three at home, the women think the Dockers can get over the line despite not having played at the MCG all year.
“It’s just another bit of grass,” Ms Giglia said.
For the trio of supporters, if the Dockers make it through to meet Collingwood next weekend then they will be booking accommodation in Melbourne.
True to the sporting cliché, the ladies said it was “the whole team together” that would help them to win and felt sorry for the various players who helped the club get this far but would not take part.
“(Michael) Barlow – I think he really instigated us getting this far,” they said.
As for the speculation about Fremantle ruckman Aaron Sandilands - as long as he is on the ground these supporters will be happy.
