PENRHOS College students honoured their mums and helped raised valuable funds for breast cancer research during the Mother’s Day Classic at Lake Monger.
The event was organised by Women in Super, a national network of women in the superannuation and finance industries, and the students volunteered to help raise funds and awareness of the cause.
Penrhos College student services secretary Martine Guest said the volunteering counted towards students’ community service requirements.
“This year was the third time students from the college offered their support.
“The students braved a very cold morning to be at Lake Monger before 6.45am and were complimented on their behaviour,” she said.
Year 10 student Rebecca Coetzee said she volunteered not because she needed to accrue additional community service hours but because it was a worthy cause and a fun event. Benvinda Lai worked hard to prepare the event’s participant packs, while Year 12 student Gabrielle Bruce volunteered for the third consecutive year.
