GERRY Prewett was awarded Toastmaster of the Year at an awards night attended by 100 WA Toastmasters.
The award recognised his contributions with Toastmaster Clubs in Cannington, Belmont and Victoria Park.
He has been a member for two years and is aiming to become a distinguished member next year.
Toastmasters is an international non-for-profit organisation that helps people gain confidence in front of an audience.
“Everyone has a common goal of wanting to improve their communication and leadership skills,” Mr Prewett said.
High-profile WA members include Michael Malone, the founder of iiNet and a distinguished Toastmaster.
One of Mr Prewett’s goals for the year was to start a new Toastmasters club which led to sponsoring a Victoria Park branch.
The branch now meets on the second and fourth Monday of the month.
The Belmont Toastmasters are now at 275 Abernethy Road, Belmont and will be having a free demonstration meeting on July 27.
