AN employee scholarship program is helping Shenton Park resident Bradley Stringer realise his potential in the construction industry.

The 32-year-old has received $5000 from construction services firm Pindan to put towards university fees and textbooks to complete a Bachelor of Construction Management and Economics at Curtin University.

“It’s a big support in two ways – the money helps out with the uni costs and just the fact I’ve received this scholarship shows I’m supported with my studies,” he said.

Mr Stringer has worked as a contract administrator with the firm for nearly 18 months, supporting site supervisors and organising sub-contractors on some big projects such as the Islands apartments in North Beach.

“I was based on-site for about a year and it was great to see a multi-million dollar project like this come together,” he said.

Previously working as an estimator costing new homes, Mr Stringer said he moved into the commercial field for the “better opportunities and more excitement” of working on big scale projects.

“To work on a large project that I’m administering myself is the next step,” he said.

Appreciative of his award as a mature-age student, Mr Stringer said receiving the scholarship along with the flexible working hours offered by his employer would provide a big boost to his career.

Pindan issued the first John Skinner Scholarship Award last year to acknowledge a long-time site manager who dedicated more than 20 years to his role and died of cancer in 2008.
