BELMONT-based Ngarda Civil and Mining has received $1 million from the Federal Government to boost its Aboriginal workforce.

The company will employ and train 91 indigenous people from the Pilbara, Federal Minister for Employment Participation Mark Arbib announced last week.

Half of Ngarda’s 320 current staff are indigenous. The $1 million is part of the Government’s $764 million, five-year Indigenous Employment Program.

As part of the WA component of the program, 50 more indigenous people will work at Ngarda’s Pilbara operations and a cadet will be hired to do university studies.

Ngarda will also provide 40 workplace and industry training places at its Yarrie mine in the Pilbara.
